Level Up Summit 2025: Creative Career Growth, Freelancing & Finding Your Edge
The creative world moves fast. Blink and there is a new tool, a new trend, a new platform whispering that you are already behind. That is exactly why the Level Up Summit by Design Boss felt less like an event and more like a power socket for the soul.
I grabbed the Boss Bundle and dived in headfirst. Four days. Thirty speakers. Over thirty events. A tidal wave of insight, strategy and straight talking about what it really takes to grow a creative career in 2025.
If you are a designer, illustrator or creative founder looking to level up your freelance business, personal brand or income, this one hit hard.
The Stats That Matter
4 days
30 speakers
30+ live events
Endless notebook scribbles and lightbulb moments
It was a masterclass in creative business strategy, mindset and modern marketing for designers.
Imposter Syndrome and Creative Confidence
One of the most powerful sessions came from Alejo Porras on imposter syndrome.
You know that quiet voice that tells you everyone else is better, sharper, further ahead? He cracked that voice open and examined it properly. Not in a fluffy motivational way, but in a grounded, honest way that actually sticks.
As someone transitioning further into freelance and building Studio Onya with intention, this landed. Growth is uncomfortable. That does not mean you are unqualified. It means you are stretching.
For creatives searching for confidence in their work or struggling with comparison, this talk alone was worth the ticket.
“How to Make F**k You Money” and Financial Freedom for Designers
Next on my watchlist was Pete Brennan and his brilliantly titled session: How to Make F**k You Money.
The title grabs you. The substance keeps you.
We do not talk enough about money in the creative industry. Not clearly. Not strategically. Not without guilt. But building financial freedom as a designer is not about ego. It is about options. It is about creative independence. It is about choosing clients, not clinging to them.
For anyone building a freelance design business or creative studio, this conversation is essential.
Tools, Platforms and the Future of Design
Hearing Drew Wilson from Kittl talk through the platform’s features was a proper deep dive into where design tools are heading.
It was not just a demo. It was a look at how accessible, powerful tools are reshaping what small studios and solo creatives can achieve.
As a graphic designer focused on branding and digital experiences, I am always watching how platforms evolve. The future belongs to those who stay curious.
From Skate Culture to Global Brands
Listening to Dan Janssen from Lincoln Design Co. speak about his career was inspiring on a different level.
Growing up loving skate culture, hearing about the companies and people he has worked with felt full circle. It was proof that creative passion, when nurtured, can carve a real path through the industry.
There is something powerful about seeing someone build a career rooted in what they genuinely love.
Starting Freelance After In-House Life
This one hit close to home.
Kristy Campbell spoke about transitioning into freelance after years of working in-house and within agencies. That jump is exciting and terrifying in equal measure.
As someone at the beginning of building my freelance design company, hearing her transparency about how she made it work was grounding and empowering. I listened in awe and walked away more confident in choosing this path.
Freelancing is not just about design skills. It is about resilience, systems, boundaries and belief.
Social Media Strategy Without the Perfection Trap
Social media has always been a strange beast. As creatives, we feel pressure to present polished perfection.
Hannah Isted dismantled that idea beautifully. Consistency over perfection. Clarity over curation. Done over delayed.
I realised I had been chasing an unsustainable standard. Trying to make every post immaculate. But messy and honest often connects more than flawless and filtered.
Following that, Alan Ayoubi reinforced key patterns and methods I had not fully considered. His take on “unpopular opinions” as a hook made something click.
Those posts make you stop scrolling. Especially in a world full of competing perspectives. That pause is powerful.
For Studio Onya, this means showing up more consistently, sharing process, sharing lessons and building connection rather than chasing polish.
Client Management and Building the Right Relationships
Absolute gold came from Joana Galvao.
Starting a company means stepping into management and client-facing responsibilities that were never central in my previous roles. Design was always the focus. Now, communication, alignment and boundaries matter just as much.
Her transparency around finding the right clients and being vigilant about misalignment was exactly what I needed to hear. Not every project is a good fit. And that is fine.
Building a strong brand strategy studio means working with people who value process, clarity and long-term thinking.
What I Took Away from Level Up Summit
I came away refreshed, inspired and slightly aware of how much more there is to learn. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, I feel equipped.
Better mindset around imposter syndrome
Clearer thinking about creative income and financial growth
Practical social media strategies for designers
Confidence in the freelance journey
Stronger awareness of client alignment and business systems
For anyone looking to grow a creative career, start freelancing, build a design studio or scale a personal brand, the Level Up Summit by Design Boss is genuinely worth exploring. and still avalible with the Boss Bundle

Building Studio Onya, One Level at a Time
Studio Onya is about thoughtful branding, meaningful design and building work that lasts. Events like this remind me that growth is layered. Skills, mindset, money, marketing. It is all connected.
The creative industry is not just about making things look good. It is about building something sustainable.
And this summit felt like sharpening the tools before getting back to the craft. 🚀 With this newfound knowledge and inspiration, I am eager to start some new projects. Arrange a call with me.
