RELICS: Bricks of the New World
FORM
RELICS: Bricks of the New World reimagined The Goods Shed as the abandoned remains of Earth in the year 2530, a time when humans have fled the planet after centuries of environmental neglect. In this post-human world, only LEGO minifigures remain, picking through decaying artefacts to piece together the stories we left behind. As the lead designer overseeing brand identity, website, creative direction, and exhibition design, my challenge was to create a visual and narrative system that captured the scale and imagination of the world Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler had built. The project demanded a delicate balance between playful LEGO energy and the darker, cautionary tone of a world fallen into ruin. Without careful handling, the experience risked feeling either too whimsical or too bleak. I developed a brand language that embraced the charm of LEGO while embedding it within a broader sci-fi aesthetic, giving audiences an immediate sense of story and atmosphere before they even entered the exhibition. Another challenge was ensuring coherence across physical installation, digital content, and promotional materials, each of which needed to expand the world of RELICS without contradicting it. By establishing a unified visual framework and narrative thread, the design brought consistency and depth to every touchpoint, guiding visitors through a world that felt expansive, imaginative, and unsettling in all the right ways. The final exhibition successfully merged storytelling, craft, and visual identity into an experience that encouraged exploration and curiosity, inviting audiences to discover what we leave behind when we stop paying attention to the world we live in.
